ASFM Year 1 Self-Assessment

This is the main page for my reflective self-assessment of my first full year of high school teaching, for the American School Foundation of Monterrey’s Track 1 teacher evaluation. If you want to read a general overview of my professional approach instead, take a look at my statement of teaching philosophy.

Summary

The Track 1 reflection process has been a useful tool for reflecting on my first full year of professional teaching and evaluating myself with the goal of improving my teaching. In my opinion, I have met the standards set by ASFM in five out of the six teaching domains, and am approaching standards in the domain of Class Environment and Management.

The process has clarified several goals I have for next year:

  • more consistently enforce behavioural standards in my classroom,
  • improve my focus on student learning in planning and instruction,
  • keep students accountable to practicing math through homework quizzes, and
  • proactively communicate with parents regarding their child’s progress.

Overall, I am working towards my goals and drawing on my strengths to be a good teacher for my young learners: I relate well to students, I have a deep knowledge of and passion for my subject of mathematics, I am organized and professional, and most importantly I care strongly about my students’ learning. I hope these strengths and goals are well-reflected in the detailed reflections and evidence linked below.
